What Isabella Desiresby Anne Malloryreviewed by Leanne DavisAugust 2007, 353 pages, Publisher: Avon, ISBN: 006124239X Back Cover Blurb: Lady Isabella Willoughby has always been patient and proper. But secretly, scandalously, she longs to be wild - to wear daring gowns while dancing the night away. Above all, she craves one thing: To be more than merely a "friend" to Marcus, the dashing, sinfully handsome Lord Roth.
Marcus has everything - power, prestige, wealth . . . enemies. He thrives on danger and lives life to the fullest knowing each day might be his last, for he carries a dark family secret which precipitates one simple rule - never fall in love. Especially not with dear Bella, who has, of late, transformed herself into a siren, bewitching every male she encounters with her newly unfettered sensuality. Marcus must not allow himself to be tempted - but his resolve is weakening by the minute. For what Isabella desires, she is determined to get . . .
Isabella, Lady Worthington has always lived a quiet life free from the scandal that her mother so readily created. Her marriage was a friendly one. She genuinely mourned the death of her husband but they shared no great passion. Isabella secretly desires a life filled with adventure and the passion she has never experienced. She is convinced that Marcus Stewart, Lord Roth can give her what she desires. She sets out to intrigue and seduce him into an affair.
Marcus Stewart lives a life filled with intrigue. He and his best friends have worked with the Foreign Office for years. Marcus is a behind-the-scenes player in both the Office and Parliament and has powerful friends as well as deadly enemies. Now, one of his enemies is killing off the men who work for him. To compound the problem, he is dealing with headaches which he believes is the onset of a debilitating illness. Marcus has a lot to arrange before he can retire and dealing with Isabella isn't part of his plan. However, Isabella isn't willing to take no for an answer. When Marcus' enemy targets Isabella, Marcus will bring all his power to bear to protect her.
Ms. Mallory has written a wonderfully intricate story with a hero and heroine who can't be beat. This story drew me in and I found myself applauding Isabella's determination and ability to cope with a crisis. Her characters came alive for me as I was drawn into the story. Don't miss this one!
